The STR Directors MasterMind Difference

The MasterMind for professionals to make better industry specific tactical decisions

Conferences or Events are Not the Only Option

Chance networking encounters are great, but unpredictable.  And after a great conversation with a new contact, how often do you follow up with that person?  Investing in predictable relationships yields predictable results.  And rather than waiting for an annual event with uncertain environment and attendees, you can count on exclusive and private monthly meetings with the same people who are invested in your success.

10 Brains are Better than 1

Even better than a great conversation with one person, Napoleon Hill described the improvement of decisions made with the power of a hive or master mind.  But getting together in remote vacation locations with high quality peers is not always possible.  Fortunately, online meeting platforms extend the regularly scheduled monthly board room to any room.

Information Overload?

Short Term Vacation Rental Managers are experiencing an accelerating industry maturity arc.  And with maturity, comes an explosion of industry educators, gurus, courses, and advisors.  STRD does not create yet another stream of information - it provides a setting of peers who help each other interpret and act on all the information available.

Cross Industry vs. Internal Peers?

While  cross industry knowledge can be beneficial, peers with specific tactical industry knowledge increase the depth of understanding possible.  Prior to online options which allow operators in non competitive markets to collaborate, in person meetings prevented competitive companies from benefitting from peer knowledge.

The Origin of the Term "MasterMind"

Billionaire steel tycoon Andrew Carnegie credited his entire fortune to his MasterMind (MM) group – he inspired author Napoleon Hill to create the term in his 1937 book "Think and Grow Rich" Thomas Edison, Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone had their own small MM groups or cohorts.

A MM cohort is a group of peers who meet regularly to learn each others businesses in order to support and share advice in the gestalt form of "what works for me". It’s similar to mentoring, but has several important differences. First, it will have approximately 8-11 members, instead of being a one-on-one meeting.  And second, it is not a large passive gathering where each person cannot fully participate. In a MM group, you will both give and receive advice, while in a mentorship, you’ll typically be on the receiving end. MM groups can also involve brainstorming, educational presentations and even discussing personal issues. Many people think of these groups as MM classes, but they are not a class. There is no single teacher with a prepared lesson. So what is a MM group really? It is a “Meeting of the Minds” - a place where you can speak the truth and expect it in return. The benefits of MM groups are vast. In the best groups, members hold each other accountable for their goals - driving each other to reach the highest levels of success.

MasterMind meetings are held monthly in a confidential online meeting space. We understand emergencies sometimes come up that are unavoidable, but we are really shooting for 100% attendance each month.  Lack of attendance affects the dynamic of the group. Missing meetings doesn’t only affect person who couldn’t attend, but it affects all members as their experience sharing isn’t available for the people that did make it. We schedule meetings a year in advance (ie 2nd Monday of the month from 2:00-4:00pm). We will work through scheduling conflicts.  If you don’t feel you can consistently attend, MasterMinds may not be the best fit for you.
